Food Trend: Cooking And Eating More Meals At Home

Lately, I've been reading articles about the predicted food trends. One
trend that caught my attention above all the rest is the idea that more
people will be preparing and eating more of their meals at home. I hope
this is true and a trend that is here to stay!

Over the years, home cooked meals have replaced meals on the run, fast
food or take-out foods. I have met many people who simply have trouble
finding the time or don't know how to put together simple, healthy
meals. I have met clients who literally consume ALL of their meals on
the run, and never have a meal at home. With so many sources of food
available everywhere and at anytime, it's easy to see how this could
happen. Yet, there are a number of compelling reasons why you should
rethink how you (or your family) get meals.

* Quick and simply prepared foods made at home could help you get
healthier, lighter, and provide you with a bit more cash to spend on
other things. Home prepared foods are almost always lower in fat,
calories and sodium. The person who prepares meals at home has control
of how the food is made, what goes into it, and most importantly, how
much is served.

* Meals purchased out are usually much larger portions than one might
have at home. A quick check of the caloric content of many chain
restaurant meals reveals some alarming news - those meals could contain
1000 or more calories. How many times have you consumed the entire
portion of a large restaurant meal? Unless you are taking half of that
portion home, you may be consuming far more calories than you may
realize. If the dish is prepared with heavy sauces or oils even a half
portion can mean lots of extra calories.

* A side benefit of eating at home: more family time together and the
chance to teach your children healthy eating habits. Families who eat on
the run all of the time lose out on quality time to communicate with one
another about school, work or the day's events. Eating meals together as
a family is an opportunity to set a positive example and educate your
children about healthy eating.

You don't need to have special cooking skills to put together healthier
meals at home. Here are a few examples of how to start:

* Start having breakfast at home instead buying the calorie-laden
breakfast sandwich. A bowl of cereal with low fat milk, fresh fruit and
perhaps a yogurt can help you start your day.

* Brown bag your lunch instead of getting fast food or take-out every
day. No need to get fancy here if you don't have time. A sandwich or
portion of last night's leftovers will do. Add a piece of fruit or cut
up raw vegetables to round things out.

* For dinner, prepare simple meals once and make enough to have
leftovers at another meal. Grilled or broiled chicken, fish or lean meat
with a potato or whole grain pasta and steamed vegetables, takes less
than 30 minutes.

* Cook and plan meals ahead for the week to save time. Once you get in
the habit of preparing a few things ahead of time, the rest gets easier.

Taking time to make your own meals more often can go a long way towards
a healthier style of eating and weight loss.

Losing Weight and Staying Composed

When people set their New Year's resolutions, one of the top
items on many lists is to "lose weight." While this goal seems
fairly positive for the overweight, successful body composition
is better defined as building muscle and burning fat. After all,
if you lose five pounds of muscle, are you really any healthier
because of it?

From here out, instead of thinking about the term "weight loss"
when it comes to the weight scale, we're going to use the term
body composition. Body composition is a measure of now only how
much you way, but what you're made of. A six-foot tall,
220-pound football player doesn't need to worry about weight
loss. Considering most of that mass is muscle, they are far
healthier than the six-foot tall, 220-pound man who works in the
office every day. It's not about how much you weight; it's about
what you're made of!

Fortunately, many people who are severely overweight will lose a
lot more fat than muscle when their weight drops. However, as
individuals begin to reach their body's "ideal weight," it
becomes much harder to keep on the muscle when a body is under a
caloric deficit. A more successful person would look to build
muscle, rather than plainly lose weight. Bodies with more muscle
burn more calories, and combined with a healthy, balanced diet,
reaching a healthy weight is very simple to achieve.

The quantity of calories in a diet dictates how slowly or
quickly your body composition changes. The quality of the
calories in a diet dictates what part of your body composition
changes. When it comes to the quantity of calories, you want to
make sure your weight is fluctuating at a consistent and healthy
rate, typically around 1-2 pounds a week. The quality of a diet
could be measured on a variety of different factors. Grams of
protein and fiber are two important things to consider, as well
as cutting sugars and saturated fats. Don't forget to wash down
your meals with several glasses of water every day!

Believe it or not, cutting fat from your diet doesn't
necessarily mean you are going to trim fat from your body. If
fact, recent research has shown that the opposite may be true.
For individuals looking to burn fat from off their body, they
should eat measurable portion of their calories from fat, and
instead focus on cutting sugars. When your body's blood sugar is
high, the body releases more insulin, a hormone that instantly
puts your body into fat-storing mode. Definitely not what you
want to be happening!

Aside from diet, the other main component of improving body
composition is physical activity.

People looking to improve their body composition should aim to
work out for five hours each week if they hope to see some major
improvements. There are products that guarantee results in far
less than that, but your results are going to be directly
related by how much time and effort you invest into it. Try to
work out at least four times a week. Working out keeps your
metabolism high and forces your body to improve.

Find an ideal weight for yourself. Instead of focusing on a
scale weight or body mass index, focus on keep body fat at a
healthy level. Don't become a statistic. More importantly than
the numbers is the way you look and feel about yourself.

What Is Slim Fast Diet Plan? Does It Really Work?

One popular diet program nowadays is Slim Fast Diet Plan. It is
a program that follows a very simple set of steps that starts
from the personalization of your meal intake. The goal of this
is to reduce calorie intake by controlling the portions eaten
while trying to provide a good nutrition, too. A typical plan is
mainly consist of Slim Fast Meals along with a regular but
sensible meal and several healthy snacks. Slim Fast meals are
usually nutritious bars or shakes.

The Slim Fast Diet Plan is composed of four parts: Replace,
Combine, Dine and Snack. Replace means eating a breakfast that
is different from your usual ones. The suggested breakfast meals
are Slim Fast Optima Rich Chocolate Royale Shake, Slim Fast
Optima Chocolate Chip Chewy Granola Meal Bar, Slim Fast Optima
French Vanilla Shake or Slim Fast Optima Strawberry Cheesecake
Meal Bar. Each of these contains a balanced nutrition of a
regular meal and 2-5 grams of dietary fiber.

The combine part of the Slim Fast Diet Plan involves mixing Slim
Fast diet meals to those foods which you enjoy. Note that only
200 calories of your favorite food can be added to a Slim Fast
product. An example of this meal is Slim Fast Optima Shake plus
half of a turkey sandwich.

The third part of the Slim Fast Diet Plan, on the other hand, is
based on eating sensible meals. The plan includes a Portion Size
Guide which will help you decide which food to eat. Ideally, a
sensible meal should be ½ a plate of vegetables, ¼ lean source
of protein, and ¼ whole grain starch. A dessert can be a serving
of a fruit or salad. All in all, this meal should contain at
least 500 amounts of calories.

The snack part is composed of portions of calorie-controlled
healthy foods. Slim Fast Diet Plan suggests fruits and
vegetables such as an apple, half a banana, half cup of grapes
or small cup of fruit salad. One of these healthy foods is to be
eaten with snacks such as a Slim Fast Optima bar, 1 mini bag of
light popcorn, a Slim Fast Optima Muffin bar or an ounce of
pretzels.

As you may notice, Slim Fast basically works by controlling your
food intake. It limits your meals to what it calls the sensible
meals. While this may work for a few people, this may not be
enough for those who need a higher amount of calories. This, in
turn, can render you unstable and miserable through out the
times you would be undergoing this plan.

So why not try a diet program that guarantees a weight loss of
11 lbs. in 9 days but will not sacrifice your food intake? Fat
Loss for Idiots promises such amount of weight loss even if it
will let you eat meals regularly. It will only change a part of
your eating habit which is expected to trigger the fat-burning
capabilities of your body.

At a price which is way, way cheaper than how much Slim Fast
Diet Plan costs, the result from Fat Loss for Idiots is much,
much more positive and motivating.

Stay Healthy With Colon Cleansing

Why should I get my colon cleansed? Consider what function your
colon serves in the body; it is a waste disposal system, much
like a sewer system. Our colons are designed to carry toxic
waste out of our bodies in a timely fashion. If they get
partially blocked, they can back up just like a municipal sewer
system. This can cause a continuous full feeling, bloating, gas,
flatulence, and irregular bowel movements. Colon cleansing can
get your internal sewer system back to its regular self.

Fecal matter backs up in the colon by sticking to its walls and
collecting in pockets in your colon. As this fecal matter ages,
it breeds more toxins. These toxins leach back into our body and
can create a multitude of health problems. Studies have shown
that between seventy-five to ninety percent of all illnesses,
including many cancers, can be traced back to problems that
started in the colon. By keeping your colon clean, you can help
keep the rest of your body healthy.

Symptoms that an unhealthy colon can cause include:
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Irregular bowel movements
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
- Bloating
- Gas
- Flatulence
- Difficulty or inability to lose weight
- A spaced-out feeling or lack of focus
- Joint pain and stiffness
- Hemorrhoids due to excess strain in passing hard stools
- Blemishes and acne
- Psoriasis
- Halitosis (Yes, chronic bad breath can be a symptom of an
unhealthy colon!)

Colon cleansing can help eliminate the symptoms above that make
your life uncomfortable and keep you from developing other, more
serious problems. A colon cleanse followed by a colon-friendly
diet will get you and your colon on the way to better health.

So what is a colon-friendly diet? A colon-friendly diet is one
that helps your colon cleanse itself. It's a diet that allows
your colon to maintain itself by passing healthy waste
regularly. It should include fiber and probiotics. Fiber can be
added to your diet with fibrous fruits and veggies, beans, and
food supplements like flaxseed that you can add to smoothies and
such. Your colon-friendly diet should eliminate refined sugar,
red meat, animal fat, and heavily processed foods including most
fast foods and many restaurant meals. Your diet should also
eliminate dairy products with the exception of yogurt. Yogurt
actually has living, good-for-your-colon bacteria in it.

A colon cleanse is a good thing to consider if you want to
improve the health of your colon. But colon cleansing is not
recommended for everyone. Persons with diverticulitis, Crohn's
Disease, and other bowel ailments should consult their doctor
before undergoing a colon cleanse. You should also consult your
pharmacist or doctor about taking any herbal colon cleansing
products. Some herbs change the absorption of prescription
drugs.

So why should you get your colon cleansed? To feel better and to
stay healthier two great reasons to get and keep your colon
clean. It's a small price to pay when you take into account that
doing this could improve your health and prolong your life. You
don't have to be the next statistic with the advances in
medicine you have no excuse not to get a colon cleansing.
